An unpredictable bushfire threatening lives and homes in WA’s Wheatbelt is spreading, authorities have warned.
The blaze is burning in Corrigin, a small town of about 900 people, 220 kilometres southeast of Perth.
A bushfire emergency warning is in place for the area bounded by Brookton-Corrigin Rd, Dry Well Rd, Heal Rd, Bruce Rock-Corrigin Rd, Corrigin-Kondinin Rd, Dilling Rd and Rabbit Proof Fence Rd.

“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes,” an alert Tuesday afternoon warned.
“The alert level for this fire has been upgraded as fire behaviour is increasing.”

The fire started near the intersection of Brookton-Corrigin Rd and Jose Rd in Corrigin.
It is now considered to be out of control and unpredictable and is moving fast in a southeasterly direction.
“If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place,” the alert told locals.
“Do not wait and see. Leaving at the last minute is deadly.”
Just after 5.30pm, authorities also issued a watch and act for the eastern part of Corrigin, in an area bounded by Fulwood Rd, Gnerkadilling Rd, Crossland Rd, Nambadilling Rd, Parsons Rd and Bruce Rock Corrigin Rd.

“There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing,” DFES warned.
An evacuation centre has been set up at the Quairading Community Building.
Firefighters on the ground are actively battling the blaze and aerial support has been sent to assist.
