Suspected Balcatta hit-and-run victim identified as Rebecca Collard

Suspected Balcatta hit-and-run victim identified as Rebecca Collard

A woman killed in a suspected hit-and-run in Perth’s northern suburbs has been identified by WA Police as they work to track down a dark-coloured car seen in the area at the time of her death.

A 48-year-old woman’s body was found near Wanneroo Rd and Nollamara Ave in Balcatta just before 1am on Wednesday.

Police on Friday named her as Rebecca Collard as they made a fresh appeal for information.

“Early indications suggest the woman was hit by a vehicle, with the vehicle and driver currently outstanding,” WA Police said.

A 700m stretch of Wanneroo Rd was blocked off on Wednesday while authorities got to work examining the scene and canvassing for CCTV.

On Friday, Homicide Squad detectives also shared a picture of a dark-coloured sedan driving in the vicinity around the time of Collard’s death.

It is the first time police have shared details about a vehicle they are interested in tracking down.

Residents living near where Collard was found say they heard chilling cries for help in the minutes before police swarmed the area.

“Just crying and just shouting,” the local said. “I just thought it was normal. It’s like any other day but you know (now), sad.”
