Students and staff have been evacuated from a school as firefighters battle an “unpredictable” blaze threatening lives and property about 600km southeast of Perth.
A bushfire emergency alert is in place for Pink Lake in the Shire of Esperance after flames were spotted near the intersection of Connolly St and Cherry Well Rd at 1.18pm on Tuesday.
A warning zone is in place for people bounded by Downes St, Pink Lake Rd, Winston Wy, Edwards St, Munro Ln, Dalyup Dr, Rowse St, Freeman St, Thompson St and Connolly St.

That area takes in Esperance Senior High School, South Regional TAFE and Esperance Residential College.
“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes,” a warning to residents said.
“If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place.
“Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute could put your life in danger.”
The bushfire is moving fast in a northerly direction.
“It is out of control and unpredictable,” authorities said.
