Popular outdoor cinema set to close due to noise restrictions

Popular outdoor cinema set to close due to noise restrictions

A popular outdoor cinema is being forced to close this summer after 22 years in operation.

Noise complaints have forced the Camelot Outdoor Cinema in Mosman Park, Perth to bow out of this year’s summer season, Luna Palace Cinemas said in a statement.

“Due to the noise restrictions implemented in the area, we are unable to screen our films at a reasonable volume and deliver the quality viewing experience that our customers have come to expect and deserve,” the statement said.

“We are committed to exploring alternative sound systems that will be compliant with the restrictions without compromising on audio fidelity.

“However, it is a substantial investment for us that will require remodelling, testing and time to carry out.”

The Luna Palace Cinemas team thanked its staff, volunteers and patrons for all their support over the years.

“We have seen over 350,000 people come through our gates and shown over 1300 films and we’ve loved every minute of it,” they said.

“Your enthusiasm and the energy you brought are what made those summer nights truly unforgettable.”

Locals were left heartbroken by the news, describing it as a “huge loss” for Mosman Park.

“Incredibly disappointing —particularly if as suspected this is down to a couple of complaints to the detriment of the community who have loved going to the movies at Camelot,” a local said in response to the announcement.

Another local said they hope for it to come back “bigger than ever”.

“A couple of complainers get to ruin a community gem?” another commented.
