A swimming pool has smashed through a car windscreen in a major crash involving several vehicles on a Perth highway.

Some were taken to hospital as a “precautionary measure” and several cars sustained heavy damage in the incident on Forrest Hwy on Tuesday afternoon.
It is understood the accident happened when a semi-trailer clipped other cars as it changed lanes in slowing traffic.
The semi-trailer struck the pilot driver’s Ford Territory, moving it forward into the swimming pool and forcing it through her windscreen.

“There was a steel rod that pierced the windscreen avoiding her luckily by inches, and she’s just escaped with some minor scratches and scrapes,” Keith Tarver from Waroona Police said.
Tarver said the woman was lucky to avoid major injury.
“Fortunately she said she’d moved her face away from the potential collision and when she looked back something had pierced through the windscreen which is where her face would have been originally,” he said.

The highway was closed for about two hours while cars were towed away and a crane used to lift the pool off the road. It reopened about 4.30pm.
One witness said it was a “miracle” no one was hurt.
“We all sort of gathered together and everyone rocked up and everyone did the checks — thankfully all good,” the witness said,
