Perth woman’s innocent social media post before being attacked by two pet Rottweilers

Perth woman’s innocent social media post before being attacked by two pet Rottweilers

The Perth woman who was seriously injured in a savage attack by her two pet Rottweilers described one of the dogs as “loyal” and “protective” in a social media post years before the horrific incident.

Nikita Piil, 31, suffered major blood loss and serious bite wounds to her limbs when her dogs Bronx and Harlem turned on her at her home in Success about 4.30pm on Saturday.

She is currently in a serious but stable condition at the Royal Perth Hospital as doctors attempt to save her arm.

Piil constantly posted about her two dogs on her social media, often calling them her “babies”.

In a post for Bronx’s birthday in 2017, Piil wrote: “I couldn’t ask for a more incredible, cheeky, loyal, intelligent and protective little mate. You’re my whole world.”

Speaking to the West Australian, the breeder who sold Harlem as a puppy to Piil said she was devastated by the news but believed the dogs were well cared for.

The woman, who was not named, said it was unlikely that a Rottweiler would attack someone for no reason.

“I think that in this instance, there must have been a dog fight between the two dogs and I feel that maybe the owner has got involved to try and separate the dogs and somehow gotten in between it … That’s how I possibly think it’s happened,” she said.

“It’s not a temperament issue in the dog, it’s obvious something’s happened between the dogs on that particular day.”

Neighbours attempted to come to Piil’s aid, with some using leaf blowers, hoses and bats to fend off the dogs.

“I didn’t have a knife, I didn’t have anything really good to take this dog out,” neighbour Bryn Spencer said.

“I only had a bat.

“All I could really do was just watch this girl get mauled apart.”

Police attended the incident and attempted to taser the dog, however, were unsuccessful.

An officer then used their gun to stop the attack given the dogs were “extremely aggressive” and the woman’s life was in danger, the Western Australia Police Force said.

It’s still unclear what prompted the dogs to attack their owner.

One of Piil’s dogs has been put down, while the second dog remains in ranger custody.

“The dog will remain at the facility until investigations surrounding the incident are finalised,” City of Cockburn head of Community Safety and Ranger Services Michael Emery said.
