There were 15 children inside the centre at the time, and they were safely evacuated by staff to a local primary school next door.
“With police assistance, those children have now been reunited with their parents,” SES spokesperson Chris Hudson said from the scene.
“The fire’s been extinguished.”

A staff member was treated by paramedics before being taken to Midland Hospital with smoke inhalation.
She is expected to be OK, with authorities saying it was done more as a precaution than because of a major health concern.
Hudson said the facility’s alarm system ensured authorities were alerted quickly, and praised the work of staff to ensure children were removed from any danger.

“Their first priority was to evacuate the children. They did that and did a very good job doing that,” Hudson said.
Twenty firefighters were called in to bring the threat under control.
Early estimates have put the damage bill at about $200,000.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, and it is not yet clear when the facility will reopen.
