Police have laid charges over a terrifying incident in which a man allegedly held up a bank in Perth’s northern suburbs while wielding an axe.
Authorities claim a man stormed the National Australia Bank branch at Mirrabooka Square about 1.30pm on Monday, threatening staff and demanding cash.
It’s alleged he stole a $100 note before getting in his car and fleeing the scene.

About 30 minutes later another man was allegedly threatened as he left an ATM on nearby Bonner Dr in Malaga.
Police arrived shortly after and with the help of Airwing, a man was located nearby and taken into custody.
Following questioning, a 28-year-old man was charged with armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.
It is understood no one was injured in the alleged rampage.
The accused will appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
