Firefighters have discovered human remains in a burnt-out car in a small holiday region north of Perth, with authorities working to determine if the crime scene is linked to another vehicle driven into the ocean.
Police said the first vehicle was discovered alight on Indian Ocean Dr in Nambung in WA’s Wheatbelt region about 12.30am on Monday, with “what is believed to be human remains” found inside.
In nearby Cervantes, a small coastal fishing town about two and a half hours north of Perth, police hauled a separate car from the ocean and are now investigating if it is linked to the other.

Nothing suspicious was found inside.

Police have taken one man into custody and he is currently receiving medical attention.
Authorities say he had been acting erratically aboard a cray fishing boat that was drifting out to sea before he jumped into the water.
“A nearby fishing vessel rescued the man from the water and conveyed him back to the jetty where police attended,” WA Police said.
Significant police resources, including Major Crime, remain in the area.
