The woman’s partner and father of the child reportedly found the pair before calling police, according to The West Australian.
“Upon arrival an adult female and an infant child were located deceased,” WA Police said in a statement.
“Major Crime Division detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the two deaths.”
Part of Robinson Rd was blocked off to the public as police investigated.
Residents who have lived in the area for decades said they were shocked by the grim discovery.
“It’s dreadful. What do you do? Poor little kid and mother. I just don’t know,” one local told reporters.
Resident Peter Stanton, 77, told The West Australian he was physically ill over the news.
“There is a man, woman and a child who live there, that’s all I’ve ever seen,” he said.
“I didn’t see them outside very much at all and I take my dog out for a walk frequently.
“They weren’t the kind of people that were out in the garden or that sort of thing at all.
“I’m very surprised to hear what’s happened.”
Another resident said the mother seemed like a “nice person”.
Minister for Health, Minister for Mental Health and Morley MP Amber-Jade Sanderson called the deaths a “terrible incident” on social media.
“If you or a loved one is struggling, please reach out for help.”
