‘Crying and shouting’ heard in minutes before grisly body find on road at Balcatta in Perth’s north

WA Police say a 48-year-old woman found dead in Perth’s northern suburbs may have been hit by a car.

The body was discovered near Wanneroo Rd and Nollamara Ave in Balcatta just before 1am on Wednesday.

“Early indications suggest the woman was hit by a vehicle, with the vehicle and driver currently outstanding,” authorities said in a statement.

WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch had earlier flagged police suspected a vehicle was involved but said “nothing’s off the table at the moment”.

The Homicide Squad — which spent the day gathering CCTV, hopeful cameras along the busy road caught a glimpse of the car involved — and Major Crash detectives are leading the investigation.

Residents living near where the woman’s body was found say they heard chilling cries for help in the minutes before police swarmed the area.

“Just crying and just shouting,” the local said. “I just thought it was normal. It’s like any other day but you know (now), sad.”

A 700m stretch of Wanneroo Rd between Sylvia St and Morley Dr was closed until about 5.30pm while authorities investigated.

The 16-hour disruption caused major traffic delays for morning commuters, with drivers re-routed around the investigation zone.

Anyone in the area between 12.45am and 1.15am, who witnessed any suspicious people or vehicles or who has dashcam or CCTV footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Police have advised motorists to check the Main Roads website for traffic updates.
