Cat found with gunshot wounds outside Huntingdale, Perth, home put down

Cat found with gunshot wounds outside Huntingdale, Perth, home put down

A male cat has been shot twice and left for dead on a Perth driveway in a “sickening” attack that has animal advocates fuming and disgusted.

A resident found the black and white feline in a dire state, unable to walk, outside her home on Patrick Way, Huntingdale, in the city’s southeast, on October 2.

The good Samaritan took the animal to a vet where X-rays showed it had been shot in the spine and chest.

The cat could not move its back legs or tail and vets decided euthanasia was the “kindest” option.

“The thought of someone deliberating shooting at a cat and leaving it to suffer is just horrendous,” RSPCA inspector manager Kylie Green said.

“Imagine the pain and confusion he would have been in for goodness knows how long.

“It’s quite sickening to think there’s someone out there who thinks this kind of cruelty is OK.”

The RSPCA said the cat appeared to be a stray because he was not microchipped and did not have a collar or ID tag.

Anyone with information should contact the animal group’s cruelty hotline or make a report online.

The RSPCA said the attack was part of a sinister trend involving deliberate cruelty to cats.

In August, stolen pet cat Tiger Tim was found dead in the Swan River with a brick tied around his neck.

Last year fruitpicker Max Loketi was jailed for beating a cat with a pole in an incident that was recorded and shared on WhatsApp.

The maximum penalty for an animal cruelty conviction is a $50,000 fine and five years in prison.
